标题[请益] will not last ... until

请问以下两句如何解读？是否题目出错了？
Some experts estimate that the persent supply of fossil fuel
will not last until the end of the twentieth century. (中二中阅测)
According to some experts, the supply of fossil fuel
will last until the end of this century. (该题正确答案)
(专家估计化石燃料的供应撑不到世纪末啦。)
一边是 will not last ... until
另一边是 will last ... until
很奇怪喔！这两句怎麽会有同样的意思呢？
再来看看其它例子：
Is the United States going to last till the end of time? (来源quora.com,下同)
(美国是否能一直存在，直到时间的尽头？)
The US will not last until the end of time. Our planet's habitability will
only endure another billion years at best.
(美国无法生存到最後，因为我们的星球最多只能再住1B年。)
这篇文章也在标题与内文分别用了看似相反的句型：一个没有 not，一个有 not
标题可以理解，但内文的 not last until 就很奇怪了！
我认为「中二中题目」与「美国留存」这两组例子中的 not until 句子，
最小程度应该要改成 will not last after ... 才对，但仍需再进一步修饰。
The supply will not last
until the end of the 20th century.
--> The supply will not last
after the end of the 20th century.
The US will not last
until the end of time.
--> The US will not last
after the end of time.
为何 will not last until 可以解读成 「在 until 的时间之後，就 not last」？
感觉上有点像在中文「直到...才...」的惯性思考下，所发生的中翻英错误？
实际搜寻网路也很少发现此种用法。
