标题[求译] 请问这句怎麽翻比较好?

The final principle is that memorizing is a vice to be used
only when absolutely necessary. Too many students use
memorization as their first weapon of choice and
therefore miss out on all the hard, but ultimately time-saving,
insights they could have created through connections.
我自己翻成:
最终原则就是:记忆是个当绝对必要的时候才使用的手段.
太多学生选择了记忆为第一个武器,却因而失去了透过连结可以创造出来的，
虽困难但极度节省时间的洞察能力。
我是想问最後面那句怎麽翻比较好
all the hard开始就不是很懂了
