标题[文法] 请问过去的名人说过的话，可以用现在式吗？

之前看到一段话
Nichiren Daishonin writes that even if we should meet with disasters and
calamities, they cannot destroy our hearts. Nothing can
destroy the treasures of the heart.
Nichiren Daishonin是日本七百多年前的高僧
想请教一下，句子用writes，而不用wrote，这样可以吗？
可以因为信徒觉得因为常引用这位高僧的指导，所以用现在式吗？
