To the contrary, we knew that this : ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ : project would destroy the environment, it would destroy : riparian forests, which were the basis for the survival of : nomadic groups, the Samburu and the Tokana in this area. : 想请问他to the contrary前面讲了一堆no : 还可以用to the contrary当语气的转折吗?? : THANKS~~~~ 我个人的解读是这样的 一开始这各 project 花了大笔的金钱 ... blah blah blah... 但随即才发现 (注意到) no A, no B, ....etc. 这表示在此之前, A, B, C 这些结果是没有预期到的, 或是不知道会有这样的後果 但是相反的 会对环境造成破坏 ..... etc. 却是本来就知道的 (因为这各计画是在最vulnerable, beautiful....的地方进行的) 所以用 to the contrary 是来表示前後相反的语气 如果有前後文, 应该就可以更清楚的知道了 有错请指正 --
