想请教if跟whether所引导的子句的问题，
哪些状况下if跟whether可以混合使用，哪些状况下不能用if，
看了文法书仍无法完全掌握其精髓，
例如，
１。”告诉她他是否喜欢动物。”
我知道可用
Tell her ”whether” he likes animals.
那此状况是否可用if代替whether呢？
↓
Tell her ”if” he likes animals.
２。”我不知道这个新闻是否为真。”
我知道可用
I don't know ”whether” the report is true.
那此状况是否可用if代替whether呢？
↓
I don't know ”if” the report is true.
重要的是，该怎麽判断哪些情况下if跟whether可以混合使用呢？
３。请问这句子正确吗？
His dream is building a castle with a garden.
