在Michael Swan的<<Practical English Usage>>第三版里有提到
兹节录如下:
※public holidays and weekends: at
We use
at to talk about the whole of the holidays at Chrismas,
New Year, Easter and Thanksgiving(AmE).
We're having the roof repaired
at Ester.
Butwe use
on to talk about one day of the holiday.
Come and see us
on Christmas Day.
What are you doing
on Easter Monday?
British people say at the weekend: Americans use on.
What did you do
at the weekend?
以下用中文简单解释一下,
因为像Christmas、New Year、Thanksgiving这些节日活动,
都是持续几天的,所以用at,除非指定说是那个节日中的特定哪一天,
才会用on,看中间两个例句可见端倪,
所以像原po给的例句用at,就是指圣诞节那几天,他们都会待在一起~
而B大推文说的英、美式之别,
文法书上只有在提到weekend时有特别指出英、美之别,
在Christmas、Easter等假期那边却没特别指出,
所以个人推论在其他假期那边英、美的用法可能是一样的,
只有在weekend这个词上有所差异~
