Look up / look in 的差异 - 第二篇
Look up 是个特别的phrasal verb，代表搜寻
Look in 则只是"看"而已
在中文，很多时候我们叫人"看看"某东西，其实是叫人搜寻某物
如：看看电话簿里有没有John的电话
所以在语言上look up 跟look in会有所混淆
我们换个例子较清楚：
Please look in the kitchen for the fish.
请去厨房里面找那条鱼。
如果改成please look up the kitchen for the fish
听者的反应会是 (．＿．?)
就算改成please look up the fish in the kitchen
听者的反应会是 (⊙o⊙)
因为 to look up [sbd.] = 拜访 [某人]
所以这句话是叫听者进厨房拜访那条鱼 XD
所以，虽然look up 与 look in 很多时候都相通
但其实两个还是不一样的~
