In attendance was a large number of Chelsea people from many eras. Representing the current day club at the service, held at the St. John the Baptist church in the village of Shedfield, were captain John Terry and chairman Bruce Buck. Also bidding the legendary centre-forward goodbye were many of Peter's team-mates from his finest seasons at Chelsea — Peter Bonetti, David Webb and Ron Harris to name just a few. His first manager Tommy Docherty was also present as were members of the team of the late 70s to which Peter returned for a short spell. Captain of that side, Ray Wilkins, was but one. Kerry Dixon and Dennis Wise were there from more recent teams and in total over 300 people joined Peter's family at the service. Standing room within the church was as tightly packed as the old Shed terrace had been during the glorious Osgood years. Among the floral tributes was one from Gianfranco Zola and one with the number 9 in blue flowers, the latter carried to the church by David Webb.
