Fulham were bottom of the Academy Under 19s Group but had picked up with a win over Charlton and a draw with leaders Southampton. “They worked very hard to stop us playing in the first-half,” said an impressed Brendan. “It was a good game, very tight in the first-half. They went in 1-0 up, probably deservedly.” The goal came when their centre-forward was allowed space just outside the area to hit a dipping volley. “We went close a couple of times through Dean Furman who hit the woodwork. But in the second-half we dominated and were deserving of at least a draw.” The equaliser came when Chelsea won the ball in the defensive third. Left-back Ryan Bertrand found substitute James Simmonds and he slid a terrific pass for Scott Sinclair coming off the left flank with great pace to stride through and finish. “Seven goals in ten games for Scott,” said a delighted Brendan. With the substitution of Simmonds for Ofori, Hutchinson went to right-back, Cork dropped to centre-back and Simmonds went into midfield. “It was a real test of their mentality in the second-half and they came through well,” said Brendan.
