标题Re: Transfer Lebensohl

Q & A ......
(a) X = Diamonds/Hearts/Spades.
2Suit: To play.
2NT: Puppet to 3C
-> Pass /Lower Suit: To play.
Higher Suit: CoG with long suit and stopper.
Cue: CLUBS. FG. No stopper.
3NT+: CLUBS. Slammish with stopper.
Q1: then still I have to guess if my club is invitational or game force?
because pass is to play and cuebid is to force.
A: Yes; the situation is not perfect, but at least you are no worse off
than those who uses straight lebensohl. As a safeguard, the opener
has the option of rebidding 3 DIAMONDS instead of 3 CLUBS when holding
very good support for clubs. [Responder now can sign off in 4C.]
3C/D/H: Transfer to D/H/S. INV or better. *
Q2: What is the response of opener to 3C/3D/3H? Forcing him to bid
3D/3H/3S? Or, if open accepts, bid 4C/4H/4S to show a max?
Does 3C/3D/3H responses promise stopper(s) in opponent suit?
How to show stopper in this case? Stopper is important when
3nt makes but minor game doesn't.
A: When the opener intends to accept an invite s/he must bid something
other than a meek acceptance of the transfer. E.g. over 1N(2S)3D,
opener may bid 4H directly, or cue-bid, with support, 3N with no
stopper but a good max, and 3S with a max without support or stop.
Assuming that the opener declines and that responder's suit is
LOWER than overcalled suit, responder may cue-bid as Choice of
Games, without a stopper, or bid NT with a stopper; whereas if
responder's suit is HIGHER, 3NT after the transfer DENY a stopper
as with the stopper s/he would first bid 2NT then the suit.
If the opener wish to accept the invite yet does not have a stopper
after the sequence 1N(2H)3H, we agree that there is a problem!
However, this is no worse than "Standard" bidders who bid
1N(2H)3S. Also, if you also adopt optional doubles, you can double
and bid 3S with an invite with a stopper, so that opener can judge.
* If transfer to opp's -> Stayman.
Q3: Suppose it goes: 1N-2D-3C!-p-3H-p-, but responder has NO
stopper and 4card spades, how does he proceed from here?
A: One way of bidding after 1N(2D)3C goes as follows:
3D: HEARTS, not spades.
3H: SPADES, not hearts.
3S: No stopper and no major.
3N: A stopper and no major.
4C: BOTH majors, ask responder to TRANSFER into a major.
4D: BOTH majors, ask responder to BID a major.
3S: Ask for stopper. Usu. spl. opp's.
3NT: To play.
4m: Leaping Michaels. 5-5 up.
( X=M: 4C=C+oM. 4D=D+oM.
X=D: 4C=C+One major. 4D=H+S.)
A: Takeout. 1N(2D*)2S, where 2D is Astro (S+another) shows a
weakish 1-4-4-4, or perhaps 1-4-3-5 or 1-4-5-3.
(b) X = Clubs.
2D/2H/2S: To play.
2NT: DIAMONDS. CoG with stopper OR INV.(Usu. no stopper.)
-> 3C=Accept. 3D=Decline.
Q5: 3C=accept means accepting d as suit or accepting the game?
A: accepting an invite if diamonds is the suit.
