CAI measures the similarity between the codon usage of a gene and the codon usage of a reference group of genes. It’s values range from 0 (when the codon usage of a sequence and that of the reference set are very different) to 1 (when both codon usages are the same). So, relative adaptiveness and frequency are different concepts. --
