Cheeks started Rasheed Wallace at small forward in the Blazers' exhibition opener, and the potential for exploitation was immediately evident. Usually a power forward who is matched against players at or around his 6-foot-11 height, Wallace was guarded early by Houston small forward Jim Jackson, who at 6-6 had no way of stopping Wallace's shots. So after Wallace posted up Jackson on the Blazers' sixth possession of the game, which resulted in a virtually uncontested basket, Cheeks couldn't hide his enthusiasm. "How easy was that?" Cheeks said to himself on the sideline. It was easy enough that Wallace finished with a game-high 19 points in 24 minutes, which helped the Blazers cruise past the Yao Ming-less Rockets 104-80 in front of 12,451 at the Rose Garden.
