31 933 Ian Texidor R/R 3B Centro Especializado de Educacion Avanzada, Rio Piedras, P.R. HS 31st round: Out of Puerto Rico, Ian Texidor comes in as a 6′2 3B, who doesn’t really have any info on the World Wide Web. Texidor is turning 18 this week (Monday to be exact), and will likely report to Arizona should he sign. 32 963 Garrett ClaypoolR/R RHP UCLA Calif. 32nd round: Oakland’s first pick from UCLA in this draft came for RHP Garett Claypool (right), who has had a stellar career for the Bruins. Going 2-1 with a 3.46 ERA, Claypool struck out 48 in 39 innings. Maybe the most impressive stat is his 11 walks, or the .231 opponent batting average that mostly Pac-10 hitters faced. Striking out 8 against Stephen Strasburg’s San Diego State Aztecs, a career, high, he gave up three runs in 5.1 innings, which is pretty impressive considering how highly-touted that club is. Playing for Brewster in the Cape league last year he was 0-2, but was playing on a club below .500. He started 8 of the 14 games he appeared in this year, and just under half of his career games for UCLA are starts. 33 993 Michael Bolsinger R/R RHP Arkansas Ark. 33rd round: Mike Bolsinger hails from Texas, and plays in Arkansas, but could soon be heading farther west, after a great couple of seasons for the Razorbacks. The pitcher of the year in 2008 for the Texas Collegiate League (Summer), Bolsinger, improved on his stats from last year, going 6-4 with a 2.83 ERA as a Junior this season. As a reliever, besides one start, he struck out 68 in 60 innings, picking up one save. 34 1023 Dylan Brown R/R OF Oklahoma State Okla. 34th round: Brother of Corey, Dylan Brown (left) was redshirted this season, after an injury kept him out this season, but the A’s still went after him with their 33rd pick. Brown’s brother Corey is now in AA Midland after playing for Vancouver in 2007, and could potentially be the third brother of a 2007 Canadian to play for the C’s this year (Sean Doolittle’s brother Ryan, Mike Richard’s brother Myrio and Brown). Last year Dylan hit 3 HR’s in one game, and has 5 HR in his career in the OK State. If he’s anything like his brother, and he is healthy, it’s a snag in round 34. 35 1053 Paul Smyth R/R RHP Kansas Kan. 35th round: Another RHP chosen by the A’s, this time a Senior from the University of Kansas, but if the 34 picks before him weren’t enough, he is from California. Paul Smyth (seen, right) is 6′0 215, and for the Jayhawks this year was 1-5 with a 5.40 ERA in relief. He struck out 19 in 30 innings, walking 10. A third of the runs he gave up were via the Homerun. He was a teammate of Brett Bochy, who is the son of Giants manager Bruce. 36 1083 Jeremy Wells R/R 2B Patten (Calif.) Calif. 36th round: Drafted as a 2B, but as a player who can also play in the Outfield, Jeremy Wells hails from San Diego, California, and spent his Senior year playing for the Patten Lions. Wells hit a whopping .434 this year, good enough to lead his team, and hit 7 doubles, 3 triples and 5 HR. He drove in 32 runs, and lead his team in 6 offensive categories (AVG, AB, R, Hits, 3B, RBI). Wells’ club was 0-2 against UBC this season. 37 1113 Colin Bates R/R RHP North Carolina N.C. 37th round: Colin Bates, from UNC Chapel Hill, was on a staff lead by highly touted prospect Alex White, but Bates was a bit of an underdog out of the bullpen. Going 4-2 with a 2.84 ERA, he picked up a team-high 6 saves, and averaged over a K per inning as a Sophomore (Redshirt). He missed all of 2007 with a blood clot in his right shoulder, which is now fully healed. 38 1143 Tristan Archer R/R RHP Sullivan South HS,Blountville,Tenn 38th round: Scheduled to attend Tennessee Tech next season, Tristan Archer may have gone a bit lower in the draft that he had thought, after being named the 'Big 9 Player of the Year’, for his High School Conference. Archer, drafted as a Pitcher, was 7-1 with 70 strikeouts in 54 innings, with a wonderful .77 ERA. This was on May 6th. He was batting .415 as well. After pitching a two-hitter earlier in the year, he got the attention of scouts , and the A’s will probably try to pry him from attending college, so he can better their system. 39 1173 Ryan Lockwood L/R OF South Florida Fla. 39th round: Just a sophomore out of the University of Southern Florida (a team that is know nationwide for their raindance, youtube it), Ryan Lockwood (left) is a left-handed bat who has batted anywhere from lead-off, to 6th, to 8th. Lockwood batted .289 this year, hitting a HR, and driving in 33 runs, and also legged out 11 doubles. He drew a team-high 36 walks, and struck out 55 times, also a team-high. 40 1203 Chris O'Dowd S/R C Regis Jesuit HS, Aurora, Colo. 40th round: Coming from a ‘baseball’ family, Chris O’Dowd is headed to Dartmouth should he not sign with the A’s. His dad is GM for the Colorado Rockies. The younger O’Dowd batted .500 this year as a Catcher, but could play 2B, as per the Rockies scouts. Oakland will not sign him immediately, as he has ‘worked hard’ getting into Dartmouth (which is one of the hardest schools to get into), and they will monitor his progress this summer ahead of his reporting date to the Ivy League school. 41 1233 Justin Hilt R/R OF Elon N.C. In round 41, the A's take Justin Hilt, an outfielder from Elon University in North Carolina. The A's have done a lot of drafting of players from the Carolinas of late.Hilt is a good athlete who hit for power and ran a 6.56 in the 60-yard dash in college. 42 1263 Blake Crosby R/R 1B Cal State Sacramento Calif. In round 42, the A's will take Blake Crosby, according to the A's Twitter. Crosby is the younger brother of Bobby Crosby and has dreams of being in a team's front office some day. Blake played for BYU early in his career and is now with Sacramento State, where he hit .397 last year. He is already 24 years old. He completed a Mormon mission before playing as a freshman at BYU in 2006. 43 1293 Ryan Lipkin R/R C San Francisco Calif. The A's go back local with their round 43 pick, taking Ryan Lipkin, a catcher at USF. He is from Vacaville originally and is a draft-eligible sophomore. He hit .266 for the Dons this season. Lipkin was part of the Team USA collegiate squad that went undefeated last summer. He hit .384 in 2008 for USF. He might be another summer watch-and-see candidate. 44 1323 AJ Huttenlocker L/R LHP Missouri Western State Wash. The A's take AJ Huttenlocker with their 44th round pick. He is a lefty from Missouri Western. Huttenlocker went 11-3 with a 3.35 ERA and 98 Ks in 94 innings this season. 45 1353 Anthione Shaw R/R OF St. Augustine's (Ill.) Ill. The A's take another Carolina area outfielder, Anthione Shaw from St. Augustine's College.Shaw is originally from Chicago. He went to Arizona Western College before transferring to St. Augustine's. He was the CIAA Player of the Year. 46 1383 Joel Eusebio S/R 3B Northeastern State (Okla.) Okla. The A's take Joel Eusebio, an infielder from Northeastern State, who is the son of one of the A's team scouts. He is originally from Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic. He hit .350 with 12 homers this season. His father Angel has signed a number of A's Dominican players, including Jesus Colome. 47 1413 Kyle Roller L/R 1B East Carolina N.C. The A's go back to Carolina, taking first baseman Kyle Roller from ECU. Roller is a junior at ECU and is 6'1', 250. A left-handed hitter, he hit 16 homers and drove-in 75 runs for the Pirates this year to lead the team. 48 1443 Addison Johnson L/L OF Clemson S.C. The A's take Addison Johnson, a CF from Clemson, with their next pick. Johnson is a red-shirt sophomore. He missed the entire 2008 season with a hamstring injury and a hand injury, so he'll fit right in with the A's. Johnson struggled this year, hitting only .217. He may be a summer follow. He hit .286 in 2007. 49 1473 Anthony Giansanti R/R OF Siena N.Y. The A's take Anthony Giansanti with their 49th round pick.He is from Siena College and has a similar build to Larry Cobb. He hit .355 with 14 homers and 20 stolen bases this season. 50 1503 Tanner Biagini R/R 3B Virginia Military Institute Va. And with their final pick, the A's take Tanner Biagini from VMI. He is a third- baseman. He was drafted in the 48th round by the Dodgers in 2006. He hit .317 with nine homers and 35 RBIs this season and .343 with 10 homers and 46 RBIs the year before. --
