"Burning Crows" is about a middle-aged man named RD, whose fiancéXin-jie — a woman he has lived with for the past 7 years — suffers a sudden and unexpected occupational injury. Though no lives are lost, the injury plunges both RD and Xin-jie into a state of being "more dead than alive".
