Above a main fare On a pedestrian overpass, we watched The cars in the two way traffic glowing In the late evening dusk or it was a night still very young. Walking home together, I wondered which Direction my eldest son was looking at? Was it the uphill lanes, ascending, and taking someone out of town? Or was it the downhill ones, descending and leading people home, perhaps? Next to me was a young man growing in a boy Who now refused to buy what I said Like a piece of gift candy from childhood; I told him to cut down his basketball time; He said no and then yes, but always forgot the time. Across the overpass, and years from now Our home would always be there waiting For your happy returns After the eager departure in your adolescence. On we walked into the night, not talking much; We both knew that less is more— Less becomes more—I a bit ahead of you On the overpass! (2007/12/7) 天橋 橫跨交通幹道 在天橋上，我們注目凝望 往來車輛，在雙向的車流裡閃爍發光， 此時是日落昏黃，或該說是華燈初上？ 一起走路回家，我心想， 兒子看的到底是哪個方向： 是爬坡的車道，攀升上揚，領人出城到別的地方？ 或是下坡車道，徐徐緩降，帶人通往家的方向？ 旁邊走著的年輕人，在男孩的身體裡蛻變成長， 現在已經不怎麼聽話，不像以前小時候一樣， 總欣喜接受我給他的糖； 叫他籃球不要打到那麼晚， 他一開始說不，然後說好，卻總還是很晚回家。 過了這天橋，在許多年以後， 我們的家還是會等在原來的地方， 等你快樂地返鄉， 當你經歷，渴望離家、追求獨立的青春年少。 我們並行走進低垂的夜幕，靜默， 心裡都知道，話說多不如少-- 少的會變成多-- 爸爸在前你在後， 咱們回家，一起過天橋。 by Steven Chen 經作者本人同意張貼 --
