: 言說人的經驗的完整性(unity but not closure)跟可能性(the possibility of future);
0. Hegel.
: 甚至是Lukacs, Jameson等人會很有興趣去批判一下the political unconscious of
: teleology in Wordsworth.
1. Jameson, Fredric. "Nostalgia for the Present." Postmodernism, or the
Cultural Logic of Late Capitalism.
* Influential, innovative in postmodern and cultural studies. Borrowing from
the Marxist perspective and such French leading thinkers as Lacan and Deleuze,
Jameson provides a comprehensive and innovative overview and survey of the
postmodern culture as is articulated and embodies in almost all levels of
culture, including philosohpy, language, architecture, inter alia.
But the difficutly of Jameson's language can lead his readers to the garden
of the forking path. XD
: 畢竟, as Cathy Caruth在談論traumatic experiences所言,
2. Caruth, Cathy. _Explorations in Memory_
* There Caruth addresses the temporality and spatiality of traumatic
experiences and memories
: Neoclassis writers, [...], viewed human beings as limited agents who ought
: to set themselves only accessible goals.
3. Abrams, M. H. "Neo-classicsim" _A Glossary of Literary Terms_.
* I believe every student in literay studies must have one. XD
On Sublme
4. Burke, Edmund. "Enquiry into the Sublime and Beautiful." Norton Anthology.
5. Kant, Immanuel. _Critique of Judgment_.
* Two over-arching articles in the study of the concept of the sublime.
Thought basically philosophical, their language and smoothness of thinking
promise the access to pleasure and insight in reading.
: multitude/solitude讓我想到Baudelaire的描述"Multitude, solitude"
: Hugo is not a flaneur (and Hugo is a Romancist)
6. Baudelaire, Charles. _Paris Spleen_.
* Baudelaire is regarded as the forerunner of modernity. Hence, he is
intensively studied by Benjamin and even by Foucault.
7. Benjamin, Walter. "Flaneur." _Charles Baudelaire: A Lyric Poet in the
Era of High Capitalism_.
* Poetic, philosophical, enigmatic. Benjamin has the difficulty and challenge
a reader can expect from his/her writer. But the insight and observation
provided by Benjamin are just worth the try.
