The Old Falling Down

In the old falling-down
house of my childhood
I go down-
stairs to sleep out-
side on the porch
under stars and dream
of trying to go up-
stairs so I climb
hand over hand clambering
scared and when I get there
to my high room, find
no bed, no chair, bare floor.
