beside the train yard i pass four boys on the cobblestone walk -- they are skateboarders who cannot glide for the bump bump bump of their wheels on the stone. i walk across the street mimicking the mangy brown cat only two blocks down; the wind ruffles our fur as we climb the stairs. we will miss the clang and the clatter of the bellowing trains in our sound-proofed cubicles with the curtains drawn closed.
