The body buries its evidence, yet, at the rustle of a nightgown, its eyes flash. We spoke after fifty years of resentful silence, skin now leathery as winter apples, yet the recollection of the groan of our hapless senses still had keenness enough to rattle us like hollow trees. Mismatched yet awkwardly goatish, tender yet thickfingered, we clambered up toward the lip of a volcano reciting advisory endearments, only to miss our footing and slither back into the mere ashen consolations of the bed. Oh my dear, think of my hand, warm on your breast! How long we spent hungering for one another's souls, ignorant that years had still to pass before either soul would awake and arise, arise, arise. --
