I've been one too acquainted with the night,
Which I believed to be mature and good
I can depend on fluorescent, scientific light
Under which I've known every tree in the wood
Needless to read or catch any in my sight.
I've thought that it was my body which is young
Rather than my mind; my mind has been mature.
Coffee and tea were gods I have praised and sung
Because of the grace of caffein; yea, grace, quite sure.
Morning birds, flowers, their beauty were all flung.
Now I want to learn the morning more! For you:
Your song resonates in the morning; I willingly succumb
To your music in the morning; you only please who
Are easily touched; O Sunlight! Come! Come! Come!
I have been ready to bid the night, moon, darkness adieu!
Kill me with bright knife if I've lost the right.
I've been one too acquainted with the night.
