Baseball's Sad Lexicon
These are the saddest of possible words,
"Tinker-to-Evers-Chance"
Trio of Bear Cubs fleeter than birds,
Tinker and Evers and Chance,
Ruthlessly pricking our gonfalon bubble,
Making a Giant hit into a double,
Words that are weighty with nothing but Trouble.

我解釋一下這首詩的背景
這是一位巨人隊(Giants)的球迷所寫的
他的球隊被小熊隊(Cubs)擊敗
Tinker、Evers跟Chance是小熊隊中的三名球員
如果就我的理解來翻譯這首詩的話
大概是這樣
棒球的傷心詞彙
這是最令人感到傷懷的詞彙
"Tinker-to-Evers-Chance"
三隻比鳥兒更迅捷的小熊 (有沒有更好的翻法？)
Tinker and Evers and Chance
殘酷無情地刺穿了我們的虛幻旌旗 (Bubble是解作虛幻嗎？)
讓一位巨人打出雙殺打 (hit into a double有沒有其他特別意義？)
沈重卻只帶來煩惱的詞彙
"Tinker-to-Evers-to-Chance."
