So it was no surprise when the four-member female group showed up wearing thick eye makeup and black laced dresses, surrounded by rose prints. They were not just getting to know what love is, but also learning how to visualize the emotions. Giving a little “touch” to their past albums, here is what miss A had to say during their interview with 10Asia about their comeback. ◎ There is a darker feeling to your latest title track "Touch" compared to your previous songs. What were your first impressions of your concept when producer Park Jin-young told the group about it? Min: From what I can remember, the other members and I didn't like it.(laugh) We were on our way to talk to Park about the songs but once we got there he explained the concept from our costumes to the theme. He kept saying that he was sure this is our song so we trusted his judgment and went along with it. ◎ What are the other tracks like on the album? Jia: They are different from "Touch" and all the titles of the songs are in English. We received all the songs from international composers and changed the lyrics into Korean, which gave them more of pop-like feelings. Min: Also, this album is tracked with the songs we suggested. All the tunes have a more pop feeling to them as well as elements of dubstep and electronica music. (laugh) That’s because we had to express everything that Park explained to us. ◎ It seems like the choreography for "Touch" is sexier. What was it like practicing the dance moves and did all the members understand the concept of it? Fei: When we spoke with Park about the concept, he told us that the main point of "Touch" is the rose. At first we didn't understand, so he drew a rose and told us that we had to move like a rose whenever we did a wave. That is why our overall concept is a rose. (All members laugh) Jia: None of us understood what Park was talking about so he drew a person next to the rose. And he said that when we move we have to be smooth yet sharp like a rose. Min: It is just a hard subject. (laugh) ◎ The choreography and moves are quite different from your past performances. And I heard that you guys worked with Jonte, what was like working with him? Jia: We worked with Jonte who was in charge of choreographing Beyonce's "Single Ladies." Park really likes his work since his moves are unlike any others. Though we never met him and we learned the dance moves through the videos that he sent us. Suzy: But it feels like we know him really well because we watched that video a lot. (laugh) ◎ It seems as though your dance moves for "Touch" is less extreme and acrobatic compared to your past performances. Does it feel different? Min: The overall choreography is not as extreme as the previous ones but we always have to remember to mind our movements, from where to look at to how we make our hand gestures. We have to deliver the message in the lyrics through the moves. But all songs have their good and bad points. Suzy: You can't breathe when you perform the moves for "Touch." It is difficult and we have to restrain ourselves. ◎ So how do you sing and dance at the same time? Min: We try real hard. (laugh) ◎ What were some of your first thoughts when you saw the designs and the concept? Fei: My first thought was it had a sort of funky feeling to it. I was mostly worried because this was something that miss A has never tried before. But now, I can honestly say that "Touch" is very addicting. ◎ The new album shows a more mature and feminine side to the group, can you tell us more about the album's concept on how it came about and the other songs? Suzy: The lyrics for “Touch” express how a brokenhearted girl overcomes those feelings in order to love again. That is why we were all worried on how to express her pain. Then the concept of a rose hit us. A rose is extravagant and beautiful when you first see it and that is why we felt that it would go well with our stage costume and makeup. All the patterns for our costumes have rose designs and our makeup is dark as well. We worked really hard in order to express all the details, which made the overall feeling of "Touch" more mature and feminine. ◎ The lyrics sing of love and heartache. Do any of the members have any personal experiences with those two topics? Suzy: Since I am still young, I don't have any personal experience with love and heartache. It is difficult subject matter which is why Park tried real hard to explain the meaning of the lyrics to us. Jia: That is why Park told us to think of it as a drama. He told us to think that we are the female lead in a drama and were deeply hurt by a guy. And we meet nice guys when we walk into a bar for a drink. So you slowly begin to open your heart to him. He even acted out some of the lyrics. (laugh) Min: He sat all four of us down in the recording studio. When he was acting out the lyrics it seemed as if he was going to cry. (laugh) Jia: I felt like his explanations were really helpful especially when he acted out the lyrics. Jia: It was all helpful because I knew what emotions to show and how to express them. It was real fun when he was explaining it to us but he turned serious once we started recording. I don't have any personal experience of heartache though all our past songs tell the guys to "Shut Up" and "Goodbye." And I needed to do some research since "Touch" is different in that it requires an experience with heartache to do a good job in expressing them. That is why I watched a lot of dramas and read many books in order to help with my acting. ◎ What are some of the dramas that you used as references? Jia: I mostly watched Chinese dramas because I had to understand what they are talking about. Suzy: Some of the fans said that they felt like they were watching a horror movie and looked like something was going to pop out. They were also scared since some of the teasers showed blood. Fei: And one of the fans said that it seemed like we were vampires. ◎ What are some of your expectations with your comeback? Min: I'm anticipating our fans' responses. Suzy: I can't wait to see our fans and I’m real curious on what they will think but most importantly we worked really hard on all the details for our performance. We perfected all the details from sadness, to melody, to our expressions and to our voices. We put in a lot of effort on our comeback and I hope that our fans will enjoy it. ◎ Were you guys able to visit your families during your resting period? Jia & Fei: No. Fei: We planned on visiting our families but sadly we had to cancel our tickets at the last minute in order to prepare for our comeback. http://cphoto.asiae.co.kr/listimglink/6/2012022300103518511_2.jpg ◎Then what did you guys do during the Lunar New Year holiday? Fei: We practiced our dance moves and recorded our songs and performed in several shows overseas. ◎ So what do you guys do for fun when you all get together? Jia: Just recently, we had a birthday party for one of our dance teachers and everyone got together even all the members of 2AM and 2PM. Min: Oh my! It was so much fun. We all went to sing karaoke. Suzy: We sang all the latest songs. Jia: But we don't sing our own songs. (laugh) ◎ Suzy, Do you still keep in touch with your star Kim Soo-hyun from "Dream High?" It seems like he is doing real well starring in MBC's "The Moon Embracing the Sun." Suzy: I keep in touch with him once in a while. I tell him to stay warm and to take care of himself since I know how cold it is on set since this is about the time we shot "Dream High” last year. ◎ So, do you watch "The Moon Embracing the Sun?" Suzy: When I first called Kim he asked me if I watched the series and when I told him that I didn't, he spoke to me like he was his character Lee Hwon[the King in "Moon"] and told me to watch it. ◎ Suzy, since you starred in the first season of "Dream High," do you watch the new season and what do feel when you do? Suzy: I watched it in the beginning but I don't have much time recently. It is kind of surreal when I'm watching it because I feel like I should be in it. And it was quite interesting to see Kilin Art School. I am somewhat sad that I wasn't able to take part in the second season and if I was to star in it I feel like I could have done a good job. ◎ Park is currently one of the judges on SBS' audition program "K-pop Star" and he gives feedbacks to the contestants’ mistakes. Did he treat the same to you guys and is he like that in person? Min: I was a trainee at JYP Entertainment for about eight years and I saw him almost every day. And whenever I see him on TV making those comments to a contestant it feels like he is directing them to me as well. He is exactly how is on television in real life. Jia: I think that’s to really nail the image that we all know, for he goes on television a lot. What are some of things that you guys want to try out? Fei: I want to star in a drama but I know I will have some difficulties because I don’t speak perfect Korean. I also thought about taking on a movie but I know it will be difficult for me as well. I wish I was given a chance to sing for a soundtrack. Suzy: If you want to act you can play a friend who came from abroad. (laugh) Min: I have shot a movie and sang a song for a soundtrack and it would be great to begin doing solo performances but the most important thing for me right now is being a member of miss A. Jia: If I was given the opportunity I would want to do something related with hip-hop. I want to stand comfortably on stage. Min: I want to do hip-hop as well. Suzy: I want to work on a ballad and sing for a soundtrack too. ◎ What are some goals that you hope to achieve with the new album? Suzy: I hope that everything that miss A does this year will blossom like a rose since it is our main theme. I just want the best for us and I hope that the album does well. ◎ Any personal goals for 2012? Fei: I want to try a solo project and work on a soundtrack. I would also like to shoot a movie or drama in China. Min: I want to learn driving. I recently got my driver's license so maybe I would like a car. Jia: I want to do a solo hip-hop project. Suzy: I wish that my upcoming movie "Introduction to Architecture" does well in the box office and also sing a ballad for the soundtrack. ◎ We know that the “dating ban” for the Wonder Girls was lifted. What about for you guys? Min: I don't think we even had a dating ban. Suzy: I think we did and it was as forced upon us. And it is a personal choice to be in a relationship. (laugh) --
