iPTH = intact PTH = whole PTH
Whole PTH is metabolized to several different segments:
an N terminal: 8-24 pg/ml (normal range)
a C terminal: 50-330 pg/ml (normal range)
Conclusion: iPTH, N terminal or C terminal provide accurate information
concerning the level of PTH in the blood generally.
iPTH is most often tested since it is most reliable.
Normal range of iPTH: 10-65 pg/ml
Note: drugs that increase PTH include anticonvulsants, steroid, isoniazid,
lithium and rifampin; drugs that decrease PTH include cimetidine and
propranolol.
