Name: Krittawit Krittayaruangroj
Nickname: Chris-The Floating Foreigner
Reason for joining: Wanted to learn lifesaving… now trying to survive the
training first . I knew this lifeguard course requires Chinese literacy,
but I still wanted to give it a shot. I truly appreciate the head coaches and
crew for allowing me into the program despite the language gap. I’m here to
learn, try, and grow.
Best skill: Smiling through suffering and adding a bit of international
flavor to the class.
Worst skill: My Chinese ability drops dramatically once I’m underwater.
Training experience: Thought this was a swimming course… turns out it’s
more like military camp with water.
A thought I’ve been carrying: I believe lifeguarding is universal, what
matters more is the willingness to serve and protect others when it counts.
Water doesn’t ask what language you speak.
A message to myself: Survive until graduation.
What I want to say to coaches:
If I swim too slowly, please consider it part of environmental adaptation
training! Also, every day we get served a “swimming set meal”. Coach calls
it dinner… but honestly, I don’t remember ordering this kind of dinner
It feels more like an unlimited buffet of suffering and fatigue—but I’m
still trying to finish the course
What I want to say to classmates: Thank you to my classmates for being kind,
patient, and open-hearted in accepting me as a foreigner and non-Chinese
speaker. I know I may slow things down or cause extra effort at times, and I
genuinely appreciate your understanding. I hope I can earn not just skills
here, but also real friendships through this journey.
Remarks: Thai trainee currently learning how to float through language
barriers, one stroke at a time
Current role outside the pool: Visiting scholar at NTUST, staying in Taiwan
until end of December. I am working with NTUST on how AI and digital tools
can support quality of life and create more inclusive employment in tourism
and social entrepreneurship. If you’re interested in this topic or have any
insights or experiences related to persons with disabilities, feel free to
reach out, happy to connect and learn from you.
I only use Facebook because apparently that’s where people my age still
exist
No Instagram, no TikTok — I’m digitally outdated but emotionally available.
Feel free to search my full name and add me on Facebook.
