Influenced by '80s UK icons like The Smiths, New Order, The Cure, etc. 1976 released their debut album in 1999. As one of most successful indie bands of Taiwan, listening to the music of 1976 is like taking an in-depth tour of the evolution of Taiwanese indie rock since the ‘90s. Groundbreaking Taiwanese indie label Crystal Records released the 2nd 1976 album "Sense of Direction" in 2000 and the album’s title single became an important hit on Taiwan’s indie scene. In 2008, 1976 was signed by SONY MUSIC and released their 5th studio album "Asteroid 1976". 2009 was a big year, as 1976 were honored to be the opening band for the Asian tour of OASIS. Their album "manic pixie dream girl" took 1976 to Taiwan’s 21st Golden Melody Awards in 2010 where they won the award for Best Band.
