本集名稱 return 0， 學過程式的都知道這是什麼意思。 整集給人一股淡淡的哀傷的感覺， 以 Machine 為第一人稱敘述著發生了什麼事： If you can hear this, you're alone. The only thing left of me is the sound of my voice. I don't know if any of us made it. So let me tell you who we were. And how we fought back. 一開場 Machine 看到的畫面一片黑， 看起來這是與 Samaritan 戰爭之後的慘況， 甚至 Machine 也不知道戰爭的結果如何， 只能跟觀眾說明戰爭中發生的事。 在上一集芬奇成功啟動 Ice 9 病毒之後， 病毒開始瘋狂感染全世界的電腦， 當然 Samaritan 和 Machine 也逃不過， Machine 受到感染後核心功能不斷受破壞， 慢慢地、慢慢地「死去」， 想當然 Samaritan 也不例外。 因為受到破壞， Machine 的記憶也有點錯亂， 所以整集的敘述也刻意讓時間前後順序交錯， 剛好也可以製造緊張懸疑感， 開始看到的是芬奇在一棟大樓樓頂腹部似乎受槍傷， 而 Machine 在跟芬奇確認著時間點， 因為她有點混亂搞不清現在是不是現實。 里斯跪在地上被人拿槍押著； 蕭在 Root 的墓前； 而傅斯可的腹部也疑似受了槍傷。 原來是 Samaritan 已經找到了 Root 的下葬處， 所以找人取下 Root 的電子耳， 在加以分析後找出 Machine 使用的頻率， 也藉此找到了回到警局的里斯和傅斯可， 於是他們兩人被警察抓起來要送到監獄去， 但實際上 Samaritan 已經安排好在半路上就要派人殺了他們， 所以才出現里斯被人押著跪在地上的情節， 後來幸好是芬奇和 Machine 救了他們。 而蕭好不容易決定到 Root 墓前看她， 卻發現 Root 的墓已經被挖開過， 而不久 Samaritan 特工也到場要對付蕭， 一樣是 Machine 幫忙蕭逃走。 另外為了生存下來 Samaritan 也留了一手， 它把自己一份沒受病毒感染的備份藏在聯邦銀行的保險庫裡， 所以芬奇和里斯出發去催毀它， 而蕭和傅斯可則留在地鐵站保護著 Machine 不會被 Samaritan 的特工來毀掉。 芬奇和里斯嘗試用 Ice 9 病毒再去感染 Samaritan 的備份， 但沒想到 Samaritan 又把自己壓縮了一份備份上傳到衛星上， 而且芬奇還在 Samaritan 特工趕來阻止時中了一槍， Machine 告訴芬奇唯一的方法就是也把 Machine 的備份上傳到衛星上， 讓 Machine 和 Samaritan 對打， 不過 Samaritan 也知道要防止 Machine 來這一招， 所以 Samaritan 一定會鎖定要把 Machine 備份上傳的地方， 而且 Machine 已經發現 Samaritan 打算發射飛彈催毀那個地方。 芬奇打算犠牲自己去把 Machine 上傳到衛星上， 沒想到里斯早就曾和 Machine 有過協議， 如果有這麼一天一定要讓他能救芬奇的命， 於是 Machine 騙了芬奇到另一棟大樓樓頂， 而里斯則是到了對面真正能上傳 Machine 備份的大樓頂。 就這樣里斯成功上傳了 Machine 的備份上了衛星， 但他也在芬奇眼前為了能確保上傳能完成而被趕來的 Samaritan 特工開了好幾槍， 最後飛彈也命中了里斯所在的大樓。 在地球上中了病毒奄奄一息的 Machine 最後和芬奇說了 她這些年看盡人世間一切生死所學到的： I was built to predict people. But to predict them, you have to truly understand them. So, I began breaking their lives down into moments. Trying to find the connections, the things that explained why they did, what they did. And what I found was, that the moment that often mattered the most, the moment when you truly found out who they were, was often their last one. 芬奇沒教過 Machine 要如何去預測人的行為， 所以 Machine 自己想到藉由觀察人的一生， 找出人的行為模式後就能去預測人會做出什麼事， 而且 Machine 還發現人往往在死前最後一刻才最能代表其一生。 Machine 另外也說了她聽過對人的死亡與否最好的定義： Everyone dies alone. But if you mean something to someone, if you help someone, or love someone. If even a single person remembers you.
