Often the system performance is limited by the accuracy, speed and power of the data converters. This course will cover essential details to enable the student to design high-resolution high-speed Nyquist-rate analog-to-digital converters. We'll survey the current state-of-the art in ADC design and review fundamental concepts and constraints. The course will progress to advanced topics and give several design examples along the way including Flash, SAR, Pipelined and Folding ADCs. An important section on ADC testing is also included which covers the basics of testing techniques and presents some real-world debugging challenges. The course will present basic material in a tutorial context so no prior ADC experience is assumed.
