Palms Springs finds Carey precious
Diva honored for dramatic turn

'Precious'
The Palm Springs Film Festival has tapped Mariah Carey for its Breakthrough
Performance Award for "Precious."
Kudo will be presented Jan. 5 at the Palm Springs Convention Center at a
ceremony hosted by Mary Hart. Fest runs Jan. 5-18.
Past recipients of the Breakthrough kudo include Marion Cotillard, Jennifer
Hudson, Felicity Huffman and Freida Pinto.
Carey has received five Grammys and has recorded 18 No. 1 songs. She began
her acting career with "The Bachelor" in 1999. Other thesp credits include
"Glitter," "Wisegirls" and "Tennessee," on the last of which she teamed with
"Precious" producer-director Lee Daniels.
