As you probably know by now, Carter was ripped by Magic Johnson and Charles Barkley during the pregame and halftime reports of Thursday’s TNT broadcast of Nets-Warriors. Johnson said Carter’s “knees are gone” and tried proving it by showing highlights of Carter driving and laying the ball in instead of putting down highlight reel jams like he would have in the past. “He’s not the superstar he used to be,” said Johnson. “Vince Carter used to be a player who gave you three or four highlight plays every night.” Barkley said the only reason Carter had 17 points at the half against Golden State was because the Warriors are the worst defensive team in the league. “Golden State doesn’t play any defense. They’re not bumping him,” said Barkley. “When they’re playing against better teams his numbers aren’t as good.” 老巴覺得Carter對金州土匪上半場就幹下17分的原因是因為金州土匪的防守(就跟籃網 的教練一樣)是全聯盟最爛的，要是遇上其他隊，老巴不相信Carter的數據會這麼好看。 Against the Nuggets, he wasn’t good. Earlier, Lawrence Frank and Rod Thorn said Carter’s ankle has been bothering him. He sprained it earlier in the season and had to miss five games. “Vince is still a very high-level, all-star caliber player,” Frank said. “ He’s been bogged down by an ankle injury, which has affected him….He’s still one of the best players in the league. We have a lot of respect for the opinions of Earvin and Charles, who are two of the greatest players to have played the game. But those of us who are around him every day know that he is still one of the elite (shooting) guards in the league.” (這段跟上一篇有提到) Carter is averaging 20.9 points this season but he hasn’t been consistent, either with his production or his approach. He has five 30-point games but none since January 4. He scored 29 against the Warriors but just eight in the second half and two in the fourth quarter, when the game was on the line. When asked about the Nets’ recent struggles, particularly the fact that they’ve given up 100 or more points (a lot more, actually) in six straight games, he referred to how the Nets used to play back when they were title contenders: “We have a different team. You can’t compare a team with Kenyon (Martin) and Kerry (Kittles) to a team with Vince and Josh Boone. We’d be unrealistic to compare them. It’s like comparing the Shaq and Kobe Lakers to the Laker team now. They’re a different team, they’re a different makeup. We don’t get fastbreak points. We don’t do that type of stuff. We’ve got to score some more points too.” R.
