NEW YORK, March 1 –The New Jersey Nets’ Vince Carter and the Dallas Mavericks’ Dirk Nowitzki today were named Eastern Conference and Western Conference Players of the Month, respectively, for games played during the month of February. Carter ranked second in the league in scoring in February, averaging 30.2 points on .444 shooting with 6.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists. He scored over 30 points in six games and led the Nets in scoring in 11 of 13 contests. In the second of his three double-doubles for the month, he had a season-high 43 points and 14 rebounds against Philadelphia on February 7 Nowitzki led his team to a 10-3 record for February, averaging 27.2 points on 464 shooting, 10.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists. He had eight double-doubles over the last 10 games and recorded 30 or more points in five contests. In February, Nowitzki led the Western Conference in scoring, ranking fourth overall in the league. Here is a look at highlights from the month for Carter and Nowitzki: Vince Carter, New Jersey Nets Feb. 5 vs. Detroit: Tallied 41 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, two blocks and two steals in a 107-85 win over the Pistons. Feb. 7 vs. Philadelphia: Scored a season-high 43 points and 14 rebounds and added five assists and three blocks in a 107-97 overtime win over the 76ers. Feb. 27 vs. Cleveland: Scored 34 points and had 11 rebounds, one assist, one block and two steals in a 104-98 victory over the Cavaliers. Dirk Nowitzki, Dallas Mavericks Feb. 6 at Toronto: Scored 30 points and had 11 rebounds, six assists and four blocks in a 122-113 win over the Raptors. Feb. 17 at Phoenix: Tallied 16 points, 16 rebounds, four assists and one block in a 119-113 win over the Suns. Feb. 24 vs. Sacramento: Recorded 34 points, 11 rebounds, one assist, three blocks and one steal in a 122-113 victory over the Kings.
