Dear Dr. Chiang: It is my sincere pleasure to be working with Dr.Andrew C. Y. Fei regarding a Rabies and Globalization Summer Camp for Elite Taiwan Veterinary Students. Under the direction of Dr. Gary Anderson, Director of our Kansas Diagnostic Laboratory, we look forward to the attendance of Dr. Fei and one other faculty member from the National Taiwan University, and the attendance of a large number of his students. We are pleased to be developing this relationship based on a number of reasons. We have a common interest in protecting both animals and people from infectious diseases, particularly zoonotic diseases such as rabies. We have invested heavily in biosecurity research facilities and infectious disease research laboratories. We have growing programs in biosecurity, zoonotic disease research and food safety and your involvement with us only strengthens our programs. We believe that interactions with Dr. Fei, other faculty from the National Taiwan University and his veterinary students will enhance our own efforts in the area of rabies and other areas of research. Kansas State University is also dedicated to increased internationalization and the involvement with our faculty, staff and students will be of mutual benefit to all involved. As I look to the future, it is my sincere hope that this Summer Camp will grow into a long-term and sustainable program. Such growth will allow more of the faculty and students from the National Taiwan University faculty to become familiar with our teaching and research programs. As the National Taiwan University becomes more familiar with our College of Veterinary Medicine, Kansas State University, Manhattan and the surrounding areas, I hope that the relationship will continue to build and that it will lead to faculty exchange, post-DVM training programs, and collaborative research. In your position as Dean of Academic Affairs Division of the National Taiwan University, if there is anything that we can do to make this first experience better, please let me know.
