Kevin Garnett hit the game-winning shot as time expired, and the Wolves shook off the pesky Philadelphia 76ers 104-102 Friday night at Target Center. The victory wasn't easy, but it ensured that the Wolves continued the momentum they gained from their biggest victory of the season, a 103-101 overtime win over the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night at home. For much of Friday's game, the Wolves had trouble with the supposedly road-weary Sixers, who had been away from home since Christmas, a span of seven games. But Philadelphia didn't play like a tired team, pushing the Wolves to the limit behind Andre Miller's heady play and Kyle Korver's shooting. Near the end of overtime, Philadelphia's Andre Iguodala missed a jumper that would have given the Sixers a two-point lead with 4.9 seconds remaining. The Wolves got the rebound and called a timeout with 3.3 seconds left. The Wolves worked the ball in to Garnett, who jab-stepped against Samuel Dalembert, gained a bit of separation and banked in the winning shot from 15 feet at the buzzer. Garnett made up for missing a potential game-winning shot as time expired at the end of the fourth quarter in a similar situation against Dalembert. "Y'all give me so much (stuff) about not taking shots," Garnett said after the game. "I hear so much (stuff) about not taking games over. I try to do so many different things that sometimes I get away from some of the responsibilities. I was kind of really upset with myself when I came to the bench (at the end of the fourth). I missed the shot, and I said if I get another chance, I'm going to hit this." Garnett said he made sure his shoulders were square and that he used the proper form, something he lacked on the shot he missed at the end of the fourth. The Sixers had a foul to give on the game-winning shot but didn't use it. "It was a tough shot to make, because Sam had blocked a couple of shots in the fourth quarter," Sixers coach Maurice Cheeks said. "Had we taken the foul, it would have given them a lot less time to take the ball out of bounds and make the shot." Garnett finished with team highs of 25 points and 14 rebounds, and Trenton Hassell matched his career best with 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting. Hassell is averaging 6.4 points a game this season, but he has had 33 in the past two games combined. "I'm being aggressive when they're double-teaming Ticket," Hassell said. "And I'm trying to get people involved a little bit more." The surging Wolves have won six of their past eight games after a four-game losing streak. They're back above .500 at 16-15 for the first time since and remain in a close race with Denver for second place in the Northwest Division behind Utah. Despite their recent improved play, Garnett doesn't think the Wolves are putting things together. "No, I'm not going to sit here and say that," he said. "To me, Philly's an underrated team. Andre Miller makes all those guys better, but I feel like we should have won by a lot more. We're a work in progress, and we can't forget that. We've got to remember how you win games, remember to be consistent with what we're doing. It's a game at a time." Miller, acquired from Denver last month as part of the trade for Allen Iverson, had 18 points and 11 assists. His free throws with less than a minute left in the fourth quarter sent the game into overtime after he used a pump fake to draw a foul on Wolves rookie Randy Foye. In overtime, Dalembert tied the score with 46.8 seconds left on an alley-oop dunk. Then the shot clock ran down for Minnesota on the other end, and Ricky Davis was forced to shoot a tough jumper that missed badly. On the ensuing Philadelphia possession, Iguodala got the ball isolated against Davis but missed a jumper off the glass with 4.9 seconds left.
