At least, Iverson wasn't in contact with the Wolves. First, teams aren't allowed to talk with Iverson, whom the Philadelphia 76ers plan to trade, without permission before a deal is made, and permission has not been granted. Second, Iverson wouldn't have to fly commercial to meet with the Wolves; team owner Glen Taylor, if allowed, would make his private jet available, as he has when he has gone after free agents. What is true is the Wolves seriously have tried to trade for Iverson since they learned the $18 million guard was available. There are active talks between the 76ers and Wolves, who are in the hunt. The difficulty for Minnesota is that Philadelphia is seeking player contracts that will expire after the season, and the Wolves don't have enough of those. In order for the Wolves to make a deal with the 76ers, they would have to trade a player to a third team to acquire a player, then trade that player to Philadelphia. Once those talks begin, other teams find out. Meanwhile, the 76ers are playing offers from teams against one another. The Wolves, depending on conditions, would be willing to make a run this season and for the ensuing two seasons with Iverson, 31, and Kevin Garnett, 30, together until their contracts end after the 2008-09 season. Iverson is guaranteed $22 million in 2008-09, Garnett $24 million. --
