Barry to Undergo Surgery January 28, 2004 Seattle SuperSonics guard Brent Barry will have surgery on his right fourth metacarpal on Thursday, Jan. 29, Sonics General Manager Rick Sund announced today. The surgery will be performed in Seattle. Barry will rehabilitate his right hand for five to six weeks following the completion of the surgery. Barry left at halftime of last night’s game with the Dallas Mavericks to undergo x-rays after suffering the injury late and the first half. The x-rays revealed the fracture of the fourth metacarpal, and further examination today by a specialist determined that surgery was needed. Barry, 32, is in the midst of one of his finest NBA seasons. He is averaging 10.6 points per game and leads the Sonics with 5.5 assists and 1.45 steals per game. Barry ranks amongst NBA leaders in three-point percentage (44.0%, third) and is shooting nearly 50% from the field. Antonio Daniels will replace Barry as the Sonics starter at the point, and rookie Luke Ridnour will re-enter the team’s rotation.
