The 23-year-old, who was one of France's best hopes for the tournament and would have been seeded 14th, pulled out of his scheduled semi-final in Casablanca on Friday and is now set for surgery on Tuesday. France's technical director of tennis, Patrice Dominguez, told radio station RMC: "(Tsonga's coach) Eric Winogradsky called me to say me that not only would Jo not participate in the tournament, but that he could not avoid the operation." Tsonga has been troubled by his knee already this season and took a month off before Casablanca to recuperate.
