Songwriter Tim is tip for the top

But despite his low profile
he is in fact one of the most successful
songwriters in the UK, penning chart hits for the likes of BLUE,
VICTORIA BECKHAM, DELTA GOODREM, LEMAR and TOPLOADER.
Hoping to hit it big ... Tim Daniel
Now, at the grand age of thirty (old by music industry standards),
he's decided to go it alone.
Handpicked by good friend GARY BARLOW to support TAKE THAT on their
European tour, Tim has his eagerly-antipicated debut single Digging
My Heels In and album Putting It To Bed out next month.
During our interview, I can't quite understand why it's taken him so
long to strike out on his own.
He's witty and has charm in abundance.
And he's definitely got guts.
I mean, there surely aren't many people can boast to have blagged
their way into PAMELA ANDERSON's 'awesome' wedding to KID ROCK.
But in an exclusive interview with The Sun, Tim said he never imagined
to would be the one up there on stage.
"I don’t feel that I’m at all important," he said.
"For some reason I kept on putting it off. I liked taking a back seat.
I knew I could sing but I had to be honest with myself and ask the
question 'Am I good enough?'
" It now feels like the right time."
Born and raised in Mirfield, West Yorkshire, Tim’s song writing days
date back to his childhood.
But it wasn’t until he was 16 that one of his teachers persuaded the
modest teenager to go into into a studio and record a song.
Tim reveals: "That's when I realised this is what I wanted to do for a
profession. I'm grateful for that push.
"It worked a treat with the ladies too. If I broke up with them, I knew
I just had to sing to them about how gutted I was to make things better
."
Tim adds: "I still wasn't totally convinced though. While I took up
odd jobs like DJ'ing at weddings and working at Pizza Hut, my parents
kept on badgering me to put myself out there and play in the working
men's clubs. And I'm glad I listened to them.
"It was really tough, but a great education.
"When you manage to get the guys sat at the bar talking to turn around
and listen, you know you’re achieving something. It's all about
gaining that confidence."
And it did wonders for Tim's career too.
It wasn't long before his talent got recognised and he was introduced
to Steelworks, the songwriting production team based in Sheffield.
At that time they were writing the lion’s share of the hits for THE
SPICE GIRLS, BILLIE PIPER, plus artists like CELINE DION and BRYAN
ADAMS, winning a host of awards while they did it.
Tim reveals: ‘Work really picked up. I’d write a song and they’d
say ‘We absolutely love it. Can you write another one?’
"And I'd be like ‘Yeah’ and they'd say ‘Take your time’. And I'd
say ‘You’ll have one next Wednesday’ and I'd write another one and
they'd say ‘This one's even better’.
He added: "At times I had to pinch myself. I was living at home with
my mum and I be going out to work with VICTORIA BECKHAM.
"She's one of the loveliest people I've ever met. She took the p*ss out
of herself too which I love.
"Plus she's the only person who's ever sent me a Thank You card.
When in one week, Toploader went to number 18 in the charts (before
selling 1.3m albums) and Billie went to number 4, both with songs Tim
had written, he figured his days of having to prove himself were
behind him.
And having the backing of Mr Barlow, one fifth of the UK's biggest
boy band, is surely big grounds for optimism just one month away from
the big release.
"Gary and I go back years.
"We met at BBC 1's Song For Christmas competition and I actually ended
up winning! Can you believe I beat Gary? Funny how things work out.
"He's a great guy and very down to earth. We kept in touch and a few
years later he contacted me to ask if I wanted to work with him on his
solo stuff. I jumped at the opportunity.
"He then contacted me again to go on the Take That tour.
"I went from playing to 50 people to thousands. It's a big jump but
it was amazing.
"It was great fun hanging out with the boys - there were always a lot
of women around which was a bonus!
"They (Take That) all looked unbelievable the second time round.
"Even Gary," he jokes.
Tim adds: "Obviously they don't lap up the attention. They are all
real family men now.
"I'd love to say there were loads of drunken after parties but it
wasn't really like that as they had to go and see their kids!"
He might be a late starter, but Tim's now had a taste of life at the
top and is keen to stick around.
"I like to take my time and feel there is no rush.
"I just love writing and making music. I'm very lucky I've now got
this chance.
