Interview With Carlos Moya The Spaniard has emerged again as one of the world's best players. Q:2002 I think it has been my busiest so far. I didn't win a Grand Slam and I wasn't No.1, but it has been a difficult year. After injuring my back, it wasn't such a good year (1999, 2000). It was tough to come back, but I won four tournaments and I beat players that I never beat before. I got into the Tennis Masters Cup again so I think it was a great year - the best in my career. Q:Most important victory in 2002 [Defeating Sebastien] Grosjean in Paris, because it gave me the chance to get to the Masters Cup in Shanghai and I saved six match points. The [Tennis Masters Series in Paris] was a tournament that I didn't want to miss. I really loved that match. Q:On beating Lleyton Hewitt 4 out of 5 times in 2002 I think when I play him, when I beat him, I play a great match. Maybe it's hard for him because he can't find my backhand and I can play with my forehand the most part of the match. But still I think sometimes you have a player you don't like to play and it looks like I'm the player that he doesn't want to play. But when I beat him, I play 100%. He's a great fighter and his shots are good. He has a good serve a good return. He plays his best. He wants to win so bad he gives everything to win that match and he does it very well. Q:Most important victory in my career There are two of them: [Alex] Corretja in the French Open final in [1998], and against [Gustavo] Kuerten in Indian Wells in 1999. Then I got to No. 1 after that match. Q:Goals for 2003 To improve, to be a better player. Q:Challenges in my career Well the toughest one was when I was injured in '99. I was Top 10 at that time, then I wasn't able to play a tournament for six months, so I think that was my best return ever, to be back where I am now after such a bad injury. Q:My coach (Juan Bosch) We've known each other for a long time. He is one year older than me and we played tennis together when we were 12 and 13 years old. He was better than me. We grew up together and we have so many things in common. He knows me really well and at this stage in my career, he is the right person. He travels with me every week and he knows me 100%. He knows what I like, what I don't like. He is the right person for me. Q:Why I love tennis It gives you the chance to do so many things, travel, get to know people, to know so many places. I love the competition. If you do well, you win. If you don't do well, you lose but it's up to me. It's something I really like. Q:How I take defeat It depends what kind of defeat. There are so many kinds of defeat, but if it's a bad one, you just think that it is the worst thing in life. There are so many other things that are much worse than that. You just take it as part of the game. Q:Strongest part of my game My forehand. Q:Worst opponent Well, there are guys that I haven't beat like Philippoussis, Sampras. These guys are really tough for me to beat. Q:Ideal dinner guest When I'm with my family and my girlfriend. Q:Music I like I like U2 and Spanish music. Q:What makes me angry Injustice. Q:What makes me laugh A funny movie. Q:What makes me happy Many things make me happy - to see all the people around me doing well, are healthy. That's enough for me. Q:All-time favorite player I liked Stefan Edberg a lot when I was growing up. I watched him, his game, how he was. Q:A sport I am terrible at Well I'm not very good at skiing, I was skiing when I was a boy, but I wasn't very good at it. Q:Role models My family. Q:If I weren't a tennis player... I've never thought about it but, to study, to be at University like people my age. Q:My perfect day would be... Winning aGrand Slam final, that would be perfect. Q:Bad habits I'm always late. I try, but it's not easy. Q:My happiest day When I got to No.1. Q:Life after tennis To get married, have babies, the same as everybody. I don't know if I will be working in tennis or not. Ten years is a long time so I don't know. Q:Pete Sampras, the greatest player ever? To me it's enough to win 14 Grand Slams and be No.1 for six years in a row. I think it's enough. Q:Who I think is the "next big thing" Young Spanish player (Rafael) Nadal. He is 16 years old. Maybe not now, not before Srichaphan or whoever, but in a few years time he will be there. --
