D University of Wiscosin-Madison 現為韓國中央大學社會學系教授，專長領域為Social Stratification and Inequality, Comparative Political Economy, Political Sociology. 演講簡介: This paper explores an extensive casualization of work and its impact on the work life of workers after the financial crisis in 1997 in South Korea. A drastic increase of precarious workers was an immediate consequence of the neoliberal economic reform implemented by the new democratic government, in- cluding the enhancement of flexibility of the labor market and the restructu- ring of the financial market, under the guidance of the IMF. Precarious work in South Korea has dramatically increased for the last decade, including both irregular workers and precarious self-employment in the formal sector. Above all, proliferation of new types of irregular employment in the 2000s has witnessed the significant transformation of the world of work in South Korea, raising inequality and the poverty rate. The rise of the extreme- ly liberalized labor market system tends to result in the fierce labor struggle by irregular workers and an increasing hostility towards business and social and political turmoil in the 2010s.
