to my knowledge, there is no such book that distinguish formal english
from informal english becuase the definition of formality is somehow
ambiguous.
however, I do know that some books and some articles compile a
frequently used academic list for various disciplines. you can
search for this kind of books or articles to get a sense
of what vocabulary is more acceptable in your discipline.
