Topic: Agree or disagree with the following statement: It is worth the expense and risk to make a manned flight to Mars. Is it worth the expense and risk to make a manned flight to Mars? I agree part of that. I agree that make a manned flight to Mars is important, but I disagree if the expense and the risk of the mission are too much. Especially when I had finished reading the two articles from the textbook, I was even more certain way of my argument. According to “Why we should send a manned mission to Mars,”the United States have four reason for the mission. First, it is a wonderful thing for traveling and exploring to the outer space. Second, it will help people to comprehend the Earth. Third, the United States are proud of the mission, and to be related the final reason, to maintain the proud can also help the United States keep being the number one of the field of science and technology. I agree these reasons, and they just proved the significance of the plan of Mars for the United States. But the article doesn't tell us how much expense and risk we will pay for the plan of Mars, thus providing no information for measuring whether it is worth. On the contrary, according to “Why we shouldn't go to Mars: someday people may walk on the plant, but not until it makes technological sense,”it tells us how expensive the plan of Mars is, and it also points out the technology is not ready. To replace Bush’s proposal, spending the resources on finding better technology is more realistic. Because it spends less than the Bush's proposal and the remaining money can spend on other important programs. On the other hand, this article doesn’t deny that send a manned mission to Mars is an important thing, but we should consider the plan of Mars more serious. There should be some good conditions for the plan of Mars, and we don't have these. It is not a good time to make a manned flight to Mars. We can see that when there are so many problems in the world but the sources are so limited, thus needing some efficient methods for using the sources. This is the essential reason for discussing this issue. No matter how important the plan of Mars is, we can not forget every policy should provide service of humanity. If the plan spend too much to hamper the other programs, even more, to endanger the survival of some people, the government should stop the plan.
