Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Parents are the best teachers. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. Although parents influence their children a lot, they may not be the best teachers in all respects. Generally speaking, parents are the first people children meet and get along with in this world, and because of this, they are regarded as being responsible to children’s education. However, parents, no matter on manners, skills or the way to reflect on this world, are not always the best teachers for their children. In the first place, if parents and children don't interact well, children may be misled or hurt severely. Every person has his/her own personality, and different personalities may decide both the way people treat each other and the way they response to events. For example, for people lacking of self-confidence, if parents discipline them with a lot of blame and punishment, children may abase themselves more and more, or even worse, give up themselves. On the other hand, some parents only praise their children, solve every trouble they made but do not correct their behaviors, it can also ruin children’s future—or even the future of whole family. There are also some parents, who are too busy to pay attention to their children, such lonely and being ignored childhood definitely hurt children seriously. Beside the interaction between parents and children, while restricted by their own growing process or education background, parents may not capable to teach their children what they need. It is easy to image that illiterate parents will not be able to teach their children their homework, and hardly ever capable to indicate children the available resources. When it comes to the values, there may be more conflicts between parents and children due to the different growing process. For example, parents who lack sufficient education often tend to especially highlight the value of academy, and are more likely to force their children to pursue better academic degrees as possible rather than encourage their children to find ways fit themselves best. In addition to the reasons mentioned in last two paragraphs, children are very likely to repeat their parents' mistakes. Many researches on domestic violence reveal that people suffered domestic violence in their early years incline to do the same violence to their children much more than normal people. For alcoholics and other addicts, the results are quite similar as well. Although children may hate their alcoholic parents very much, ironically, when they grown up, it is found that they tend to depend on alcohol to escape from stress and frustration of life. According to the discussion above, we can conclude that parents do influence children a lot. However, the influence, like a double-sided blade, can either be helpful or harmful.
