Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Grades (marks) encourage students to learn. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion. ============================================================================= In today's world, education already plays an important role in modern life. Every country puts a great part of GDP to invest the education system; however, how to encourage students to study is more crucial than just investing those education equipments. I agree with the statement that Grades have the function encouraging students to learn. The benefits of student and teacher illustrate why it is. To begin with, we always get our grades after an exam, and we can know how much we acquire in the specific period. However, parents always compare our grades to others, our classmates or our relatives; it is very rare to compare us in the different time. To say the truth, to compare a person in different time is a very crucial process to review one's progress or not, but our teachers and parents are rare to do that. If we could use the grades to review ourselves, we just can know what are our advantages or disadvantages, and how about we do in the short-term. Without grades, we will lose the objective devices to evaluate our progress. In the most case, we find that we have progress in the period; we will have more confidence to do better. On the other hand, we discover that we don't do well in the short-term, we will have warming to make us to do better and correct our some bad habits. I believe that grades are important tools to check a student's behavior and encourage him or her to do well Additionally, teacher can know how about student's learning situation from the grades which acquired from a test. Because every student is different, teacher needs a tool to know how about a student's condition is. Without the grades, it is hard for teacher to know a student's learning problems. For my university classmate as example, he got an A in mid-term exam, but he got a C in the final. Although he passed the subject and got those credits, our teacher felt that something was wrong, and had a discussion with my classmate. Finally, our teacher discovered that my classmate and his girlfriend broken up, and he was confused and bothered by the condition. In the next semester, my classmate already solved this difficulty and paid more attention on his class. Without the grades, our teacher would never know what happened to my classmate, and have no idea to help him. From the example, we can know that sometimes the grades are very useful for teachers to understand their student and know how to help to solve problems. Teachers can encourage students studying and getting better grades by helping them to solve some difficulties. In conclusion, grade is not a perfect tool to encourage students studying, but we use the tool well, I believe that the advantages of the grades outweigh the disadvantages. From the reasons I mentioned above, if no grade, students and teacher will lose the instruction to encourage themselves or their students to improve. --
