The issue of practicing and confidence illustrate why it is so. To begin with, everyone has the experience that we didn't do any exercise and review our content in class; we would forget the knowledge or the skills of solving problems which the teacher said easily. Moreover, some subjects like math, physics, and calculus, it's almost impossible to you acquire the concept and skills just by listening in class without doing exercises by yourself. This situation is very similar to swimming and driving, you couldn't learn how to drive just by listening the driving coach tell you how to drive or watching lots of racing programs. You also couldn't become a skilled swimming athlete by watching and looking without wetting your body and practicing. That is why expert says" Practice makes the perfect". That is why the assignments is very crucial for students. Additionally, another important reason for advocating homework is increasing the study impetus and confidence. Although the process of doing homework is very boring and exhausting, but when you figure out the answer of a very difficult problem, the "stressed" process enable you to taste "desserts" , the desserts are confidence and impetus, you would get confidence and impetus to solve other problems, the result would increase the desire of studying definitely. In addition, the confidence is not only applied to the course in school but also has influence on a student's life. The reason is that the confidence would increase the self-esteem and grant students the mental power to face any kind of jam in their life. No matter the course problems or life problems, you solve the more problems, you would get more strength. The homework would be the cornerstone of success.
