As a result, after two titles and 12 consecutive winning matches at the Indianapolis Tennis Center, the American has hit the road for home to perhaps kick back, lick his wounds and plot a revised strategy for this summer hard court season which means so much to him. The Indy end came in the quarterfinals, as good friend Robby Ginepri inflicted a 4-6, 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 loss on the former world No. 1. Roddick admitted: playing at the event which he loves in a city which treats him well was perhaps too much, soon in the wake of his Wimbledon heartbreak. "It's just too soon for me after Wimbledon, I was fighting myself out there. Even in the early rounds, I wasn't all there, it's been tough. "It was all between the ears for me today." Perhaps not surprisingly, a few hours after his defeat, Roddick withdrew from his next event from Monday in Los Angeles, where he would have been top seed. With his fragile psyche still apparently needing repair, the 22-year-old will take a few days to reassess his summer as he moves towards the Aug 29 start of the U.S. Open, site of his lone Grand Slam title in 2003. "I am deeply disappointed I will be unable to compete due to soreness in my right knee," read a statement from Roddick as he pulled. "After consulting with my coach and trainer, we feel that it is critical that I have some recovery time." Before he got out of town, Roddick agreed contractually to return to Indy in 2006. "We are always pleased to have such a talented and passionate player on our courts," said tournament director Rob MacGill. "It's exciting for the RCA Championships to be in the forefront of the competition leading to the U.S. Open. "I love giving Midwest tennis fans a chance to see how the season takes shape right here in Indianapolis." Roddick said that thought he came into the week with some doubts, he thought that he'd work his way into the tournament. He found out how tough that might be in his opening match, when he barely got past Russian Dmirty Tursunov in three tiebreak sets. "I thought I'd get better as I went along. But it was all between the ears for me. There's a lot of time between now and the Open. "This event has always been a great stepping stone for me to start summer on a good foot. I just love this event. "That's why I keep coming back, that's why I wanted to give it everything I had. I really enjoy playing here. If it had been somewhere else, I might have thought more about coming so soon after Wimbledon. "I've had a lot of success here -and I won't forget that." -- "I'm not trying to hide from Federer.
