Moya pulls out of Madrid Masters
Former world number Carlos Moya has been unable to overcome a right shoulder pr
oblem, sustained during Spain's Davis Cup semi-final victory over France two we
eks ago, and has decided to withdraw from next week's Madrid Masters it was ann
ounced on Thursday.
The Spaniard joins Guillermo Coria, Sebastien Grosjean , Gustavo Kuerten and Fa
brice Santoro on the sidelines for the penultimate Masters Series event of the
year, prior to November's Masters Cup in Houston.
Moya's withdrawal may be good news for his compatriot Albert Costa , who is now
just one place outside automatic qualification.
Should another player pull out then the 2002 French Open champion would be invi
ted to take part.
Former wolrd number ones Andy Roddick (knee) and Lleyton Hewitt (unknown reason
) also withdrew from the event late on Thursday.
