http://www.alishaheed.com/ http://www.gardenseekerproductions.com/ 前陣子只有一張圖片 官網才剛建好 Ali Shaheed Muhammad是A Tribe Called Quest之一 出版過一張質感很高的專輯Shaheedullah and Stereotypes 也就是Sy Smith有獻聲其中的專輯 這張專輯不有名 有名的是和Raphael Saadiq, Dawn Robinson合組的Lucy Preal 同名專輯Lucy Preal並沒有替Ali Shaheed打開個人知名度 或許是專輯三人的個人風格強烈到只能合作一張 (其實兩人的音樂很像,這也就是衝突的起源) 而這一張專輯Raphael Saadiq風格算是比重較重 所以 又如何認識Ali Shaheed Muhammad? 官網有很完整的Ali Shaheed專輯和參與專輯的介紹 ATCQ是Hip Hop的傳奇 Ali Shaheed和Q-Tip是團中我覺得音樂素養較高的(另外一個團員Phife算是"硬"了點) 怎麼說呢? Q-Tip其實出過兩張專輯 除了Amplified這張很跳的debut之外 第二張實驗專輯Kamaal the Abstract卻走了一個很詭異的路線 和Amplified的偏流行味道差滿多的 以Kamaal the Abstract來看Shaheedullah and Stereotypes Shaheedullah and Stereotypes走的是ATCQ音樂和Kamaal the Abstract的"折衷" 也就是 Ali Shaheed和Q-Tip想要作出和ATCQ時期有所區別的音樂 又不想太孤寂(Kamaal the Abstract太怪了) 又也就是 Hip Hop除了他們原本所做的"型式"或"型態"之外 還有什麼方式能夠將音樂本質給表現出來呢? 所以Ali Shaheed在這張專輯找了Mint Condition的Stokley Willaims,Sy Smith, Kay Jay, Wallace Gary.....等等 結合黑人本能的音樂天賦 把靈魂想要說的藉由一種非音樂分類可以界定的"音樂"傳遞訊息 Kamaal the Abstract也是如此 所以 兩個人的兩張專輯都是極端的不合理 對於現有的市場機制而言(無論地下或流行,都沒有比較恰當的位置,這點容後再說) Ali Shaheed真的那麼深奧? 並非如此 在2000年左右是Ali Shaheed活躍的年代 他幫Eric Benet的A Day in the Life製作了幾首R&B歌曲 這讓我稍微瞭解Ali Shaheed和Q-Tip為什麼一直走不出現有市場(當然,他們是走出自己 之後才發現自己竟與社會格格不入...好比好刀匠作了一把沒人買的刀) 我以前也覺得A Day in the Life沒什麼專輯概念 現在明白了 Neo-Soul也不過是另一個藩籬 把音樂給弄得死死的 難道非得要怎麼怎樣才叫什麼音樂 這種苦差事還是要有人做 Ali Shaheed就是 Ali Shaheed的音樂和Sy Smith的聲音很融洽 比起和Dawn Robinson要好一點 Ali Shaheed說自己就是一位穆斯林 不是每個人都可以大聲說自己是穆斯林的 我相信Ali Shaheed定是經過長時間的生命沉澱 聽聽他的音樂吧 我想 你會對我所謂的"無法界定"有所體會的 http://www.knowtheledge.net/alishaheed.htm 這篇很好,但有點長 http://www.nobodysmiling.com/hiphop/interview/77765.php 尤其是這一段 NBS : What’s the meaning behind the title “Shaheedullah & Stereotypes”? Ali Shaheed Muhammad : “Shaheedullah” means “witness of God,” and that’s where my middle name comes from. And I decided to call it that because it was basically introducing myself, you know, to the world outside of what people pretty much know me as – being a DJ and being a producer. So I wanted to just set it up, introducing myself. And I am Muslim. I believe in God, and I believe that there are no partners, you know, that God doesn’t share the heavens with Mother Nature or anything like that. That’s just me, putting that in my music. And the “Stereotypes” part of the title I just wanted to, again as I’m introducing myself to the folk that stereotype me as just a DJ or just a jazzy hip-hop producer, that I’m a musician and so much more. And then it was also a play on words, just saying these types of artists that’s on your stereo. That was pretty much a tribute to the people I did features with.
