Reports in The Metro suggest the United boss is set to make a bid for Dutch striker Klass Jan Huntelaar, after being knocked back by both Karim Benzema and Franck Ribery. Lyon striker Benzema is set to complete a ￡30m move to the Bernabeu and winger Ribery told L'Equipe if he is to leave Bayern Munich that Real would be his only destination. With Valencia striker David Villa seeming to prefer a move to Barcelona, Ferguson has been forced to lower his targets. Huntelaar is deemed surplus to requirements at Real, so a move for the striker could cause some embarrassment for Ferguson and his club.
