Adrian Beltre gets his 2,000th hit BOSTON -- Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre said he didn't know how close he was to 2,000 hits until some media folks asked him about it before the game. But once he got the hit he needed with a single in the sixth inning, Beltre smiled and the Rangers made sure to get the baseball. "It was nice to get it here," said Beltre, who played for the Red Sox in 2010. "But it was just another hit. We're trying to win games and keep going." Beltre becomes the 21st active player to reach 2,000 and the second Ranger to do it in the last month. Michael Young got to the number on Aug. 7. They are the first teammates to reach the milestone since Derek Jeter and Alex Rodriguez did it for the Yankees in 2006.
