Beltre to go on rehab assignment Monday By Richard Durrett ARLINGTON, Texas – Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre will begin a rehab assignment on Monday for Triple-A Round Rock, who will be in Omaha. Beltre, who has been out since July 23 with a left hamstring strain, is expected to run the bases harder this weekend. The Rangers haven’t decided how many rehab games Beltre might play, opting to see how he does once he gets there. But manager Ron Washington indicated earlier in the week that Beltre might not need as many games as someone else because he’s a veteran. Normally the Rangers like for players to get at least 20 at-bats in a rehab assignment. Beltre was hitting .276 with 20 homers and 76 RBIs when he strained the hamstring running to third base on July 22 against Toronto. He then attempted to come back a few weeks ago, running the bases in Arlington as the final step before heading out for a rehab assignment, but re-aggravated the hamstring. He’s been carefully progressing since and is now ready to get some game action before he returns. Beltre's bat and defensive presence could provide a big boost to the Rangers, who have struggled of late.
