Vlad wins Edgar Martinez Award Former MVP is this year's outstanding designated hitter Veteran slugger Vladimir Guerrero added to his impressive legacy and trophy collection on Wednesday, when he was named the 2010 recipient of the Edgar Martinez Outstanding Designated Hitter Award. Guerrero, a nine-time All-Star and a former American League Most Valuable Player, became just the second Texas Ranger to win the ODH Award, which was re-named in honor of Martinez in 2004. Guerrero, who spent most of his career in right field before transitioning to DH last season, had a huge year after signing a free-agent contract with Texas. Guerrero batted .306 with 25 home runs and 106 RBIs out of the designated hitter slot, capably supporting Most Valuable Player Josh Hamilton. Guerrero also won his eighth Silver Slugger Award for his standout season, his first in the DH category. "It was awesome to watch Vladimir play the game and hit this year," Hamilton said. "It was something I have never seen before. You can't teach it. He always has a smile on his face and thinks he can hit anything."
